Because this is a Y-DNA project, and only men have Y-DNA, only men may take the Y-DNA test. Women may participate in the project by having a male relative (such as a father, brother, or uncle) take the test for them. Contributions may also be made to the project's General Fund through a link on the project's homepage. These contributions will be used to help purchase tests for other Karvoski / Karwoski / Karwowski family members who are unable to pay for the test themselves. Donations of any size would be appreciated.

Have you thought about taking a Y-DNA test but you just do not want to spend the money for such a test? Then you may want to order a FREE test kit from Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. These test kits may be ordered from their website, which is located at: http://smgf.org.

There are some drawbacks to having your Y-DNA test performed by Sorenson. They are:

You must send in a 4-generation pedigree chart along with your test kit. Your pedigree chart is then posted to the Sorenson website along with your results, although names and information on living individuals will not be.

Sorenson does not inform people when their tests have been completed, and they do not inform people of the results of their tests. However, since the website may be searched by surname plus a set of provided demonstration marker values, people are usually able to find their test results from the pedigree charts.

It may take anywhere from six months to over two years before a person’s tests results are posted to the Sorenson website.

Despite these drawbacks, the advantage to testing through the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation is that the test is FREE.

Many people who have their DNA tests performed by one of the other DNA testing companies also send in a DNA sample to Sorenson. This is because Sorenson tests for some markers that other testing companies do not test for, and other testing companies test for some markers that Sorenson does not test for. If you do have your test performed by Sorenson, I will add your results to the Karvoski / Karwoski Genealogy Society website.
